Concrete Reinforcing Guidelines 1

I am working for a small company that custom builds floating boat docks. I am not an engineer and am looking for some guidelines on concrete reinforcing. The practice in the past has been based on "it looks strong enough" type engineering.

Could someone lead me to some recommended practices that may help us be a little more efficient at the use of concrete as decking on our docks. These are recreational use docks built from 2x6x.120" Galvanized Steel tubing.

Contact a structural engineer in your area for the design. There are a lot of issues to deal with including thickness of deck, span, loads, support structure, etc. Also there is a liability concern. Do it right. You will sleep better at night.

Definitely go with a structural engineer. One other suggestion would be to consider Type K shrinkage-compensating concrete. Since it expands, rather than shrinks, there will be few, if any cracks, to leak.
