COncrete Tank - Hoop Moment additive to Vertical

Switching from the PCA manual to an anlysis program.

Going to show that I have frogetten all my mechanics of materials.

Results inclde "Vertical Moment", "Hoop Moment" . . .

Are these additive vertically or is the "hoop" moment an additional horizontal force?

Do you typically get large "hoop moments" with temperature extremes?

I assume this is a circular tank

vertical moment is vertical moment, exactly as it says on the tin.

Hoop moment I assume is hoop tension or ring tension which is basically the forces pushing the tank ring out, much like a balloon filling with air and is a horizontal force resisted by the horizontal steel. I have not heard the term hoop moment before though so you may want to check further. Resistance to hoop tension is not checked in the same way as checking against moment capacity (i.e. stress block). You need to take into account the concrete and estimate cracking from the forces below the code specified amount. Ultimate forces are resisted by steel in direct tension.
