It is my understanding that in order for conductors or cables to be considered outside a high rise building NEC 230.6 shall be applied for the installation of the vertical raceways encased in concrete not less than 2 inches thick. Can anyone tell me what type of conduits are allowed to be installed in the vertical raceways and how are they to be supported ? Please reference the NEC CODES that appropriately provide an answers to the latter questions... Thank you in advance

The type of conduit is not specified, so any type of conduit that is otherwise allowed by the NEC would be permitted. It would need to be a type that is allowed to be encased in concrete.

Alehman,

"so any type of conduit that is otherwise allowed by the NEC would be permitted" Please explain THE FOLLOWING " otherwise allowed by the NEC" allowed where?

In other words the conduit type would have to be allowed for your application were it not encased in concrete.

For example, the NEC wouldn't allow ENT for a medium-voltage feeder so you can't use it for your application encased in concrete.

If the run is long, you may have an issue installing the conductor supports that are required by 300.19 and still keep the conductors "outside of the building".
