Conforming parts

Hello,
I am working on a complex problem where I have two step files (one for a pelvic implant and one for a reconstructed 3D pelvis) and I would like the implant to conform to the pelvis in Abaqus. For a setup to test this idea I have made two parts, an extruded rectangle and a cylinder (as seen in the image) and I would like to make the rectangle conform to the cylinder before I do any analysis. Is there a way to do this? Thanks in advance

So you want the plate to wrap around the cylinder, right ? This could be done in some CAD software but I don't think it's doable in Abaqus, its 3D modeling options aren't that advanced.

Yes, CAD tools like SolidWorks, CATIA, etc. allow you to morph/bend/twist a CAD entity.

Alternatively, you could mesh the rectangle, and try to project it to the cylinder. No analysis is required here; this is still pre-processing.

Finally, you could use analysis to deform a rectangle mesh and then reset the stresses in the part. In the latter two steps, you will need sufficient number of elements to get a nice looking mesh at the end state.

[FEA way]

There is a Wrap Mesh plug-in that can bend the meshed part and create new orphan mesh from it. You can find it in DS Knowledge Base.
