Hi, im new to this forum, and pretty new to engineering.
Basically I have just started a new job working with mainly aluminium, spindle speeds I am fine with its finding out the feed rate of the drill sizes I am using that I am having the most trouble with, there seems to be so many different answers on the internet. so Im hoping someone on here can help, I am looking for a formula to work out the feed rate for carbide drills cutting aluminium.

any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.
Matt

What do you know about drills?
About machining?
About cutting speeds in general?
About how materials heat up under forces, friction, and relative speeds?
About "what" friction is - compared to cutting for example.

Your topic is the subject books, and so cannot be reduced to a single (free) web-based answer that will work. On the other hand, if you approach the forum with even some basic knowledge and a demonstrated effort at trying to learn the basics first ....

Figure out the feed per tooth. That tells you how hard you are pushing the drill.

Then figure out the Metal Removal Rate, e.g. in in^3/minute. That tells you how well you are using the tool, and should be relatively constant for any workpiece material/ tool material combination, but you will likely run into spindle speed limitations for small holes in aluminum before you reach an optimum.

There is, as mentioned, much more.

The CNC controller on your machine(s) should have it listed inside a panel somewhere.
