Confused about Floworks 'refinement'

I have two areas of confusion.

1. How come there are two interfaces in the program to set refinement? One is under initial-mesh, and you uncheck automatic and then can go in and set refinement levels. The other is under computation control and you can turn refinement on/off and also set levels. Which one of these two areas do I use? Done one superceed the other? Very confused.

2. When reading about what the refinement-level setting does, it says it is a number from 0 to 7 where you can set as a multiple of how a cell is divided. Would that not necessitate levels from 2 to 7? You cannot divide by 0, and division by one is the same as no refinement?!?!? Very confused.

Followup -- can someone reword this in unequivocal English?

"Refinement level governs the minimum computational mesh cell size, down to which the mesh cells can be split due to the mesh refinement during the calculation with respect to the initial meshs cells (see Initial Mesh). For example, if the Refinement level equals two, and there are four-level initial mesh cells, the solution-adaptive refinement can split these cells up to six-level cells."

What do they mean by a 'four-level initial mesh cells?' What does a refinement level of 1 mean?

Also, if you are doing a time-step problem and have it refine every 1 travel, will it 'go back' and recaculate the earlier physical time flow or is refinement not useful for time-stepped problems because the fluid has already moved past the areas that are being refined?
