Hello,

I am working on reinforced concrete beam-column joints. In Abaqus, i have defined them as a parts i.e beam and column. Since beam and column need to joined at, which is often called as beam-column interface. How and what type of interaction, i need defined between beam and column so that it actually represent reinforced concrete beam-column interface (as shown in picture #2, highlighted by red color). what type of contact to be assign so that it truly represent the Reinforced concrete behavior.

I can't open this picture, it seems broken. Please try uploading it again.

Maybe tie constraint will be sufficient.

@FEA WAY

it will be kind of you to give your Email. i will send it via email

The picture is visible now. It seems that tie constraint will be the best option. How do you model the reinforcement ? With wires and embedded constraint ?

Tie constrain will lead to deform the beam only. while column at the joint interface will not deform. it will behave as rigid. yes i model reinforcement as wires and then using embedded constrain with concrete.

You could apply such constraint to small part of the column surface (only where it's connected to the beam) to avoid overconstraining the column. Other options depend on the way this connection is achieved in reality. Another possiblity is to merge beam and column instances.

Thanks for your replies. i will try all such constrains and then will compare results. i will back with results on same question.
i feel those who have research background on reinforced concrete could answer it best.

Well thanks dear for your time
