hi,

i am trying to model a connector (join + cardan) to connect a beam and a column, both of beam elements. a tip load will be applied to the other end of the beam so as to create a rotation at the connection between the beam and the column.

i selected the first connector point on the beam and the 2nd connector point of the column.

1) although i try to select the same point in CAE interface, point 1 and 2 seems to be some distance apart, in the range of E-15. can i assume that they are essentially the same point.

2) all my output at the connector is zero. this applies to moment, rotation and force. i am not too sure why.

3) Abaqus gives a warning that the model is not connected in a few points. this is weird since i am using join to connect the beam and column.

i really hope someone can advise me on this. i am posting my CAE file (it is about 350kb). thank you.

hi,

i seemed to define the connector wrongly. under Abaqus documentation, it states that

Connector-->Geometry-->Create Wire Feature
Connector-->Section-->Create: Name: connector section name
Connector-->Assignment-->Create: select wires: Section: connector section name

i am using beam elements for both the beam and column. I seemed unable to do the above, not able to create the wire feature. i am using CAE interface. can someone help? thank you.
