This may come across as a stupid question, but I'll see what I get anyway.

I am looking at connectors for my circuitry in which the battery will connect to. The battery is 1100mAh (1.1Ah) and the connector I'm interested in has a rating of 1A. Immediately I can see that the battery output is above the connector rating, which suggests to me that the connector is unsuitable. However, the 1.1A output from the battery is measured over the course of an hour, whereas the connector rating is just 1A, which is why I ask.

If at any one time the connector is rated to handle 1A, but the battery only outputs a current above this over the course of an hour, it has made me wonder if this connector is in fact suitable for the battery at hand.

(the reason I chose this connector is because of its very small size, I'm aware there are connectors with a far greater rating!)

Thank you.

What is your max current pull? That's what you should base your connector upon (with proper derating, of course).

As you hinted, amp-hours are different than amps.

A connector rated at only 1A must be very tiny. If you'll be drawing more than 1A intentionally, or due to possible failures, then you might want a larger connector.

One rule that might be applicable is to have sufficient wire gauge (including connectors) to ensure that the fuse blows or circuit breaker opens. You can probably see how this might apply to your situation.

Ah of course. That makes sense. The max current pull is very small in the tens of milliamp, no more than 100mA. I'm sure this connector will be suitable. Thank you.

Clarification:

...to ensure that the fuse blows or circuit breaker opens in the event of a fault.
