All,

I have this weld section of a large cylindrical structure I need to analyze. I have used cylindrical coordinates to account for thermal expansion. However, I need to constrain the model in the radial direction to prevent rigid body motion and at the same time, I must allow radial expansion in the X direction. Currently the body is constrained in the Y and Z directions of the cylindrical coordinate system.

Thank you!

Hi,
You can use Frictionless Support on the faces of the cut section and zero displacement on the bottom/top face, UY in your case. This should allow radial expansion due the temperature.

@jkupka84 I figured it out. Thank you!

@DoodlerDaru What's the solution? It's good to write here for the others!
