Construction Joint in Elevated Composite Floor 1

Where is the best possible place to put a construction joint in a composite concrete and metal deck floor slab?

Joints perpendicular to the beams:
I would use the middle portion of the beam span - and away from any major girder line.

Joints parallel to the beams:
Midspan of the slab span.

I like to see them parallel with beams / perpendicular to the girders. I typically have 25' or 30' bays with 3 beam spaces per bay. I like to see them midway between the beam on the column line and the 1st beam. If you have camber in your beams you want any beam that has concrete poured over the studs to be fully loaded so that the camber comes out.

If the composite action is only between the concrete and metal deck, you might consider a joint directly above the floor beams. The slab usually cracks here unless you have plenty of negative moment rebar near the surface.

If you are counting on Composite action between the steel floor beams and the concrete, then try one of the other suggestions above.
