Dear collages,

If you remember, in other posts I tryed to develop an analysis of T-stub connections, considering shells. I was searching something similar to foundation, but with the consideration of non-linearity, but my search was wrong.
Now, I'm trying to perform the anlalysis considering two shells in contact. Due to the symmetrie, I'm going to consider one of them as a rigid body. I have some questions: 1) Must I consider the thickness of the deformable shell or not, to position in the model? 2) There is some options about the rigid model. How can I define it? 3) I have performed a first model to study if it runs well. But after to know the procedure of work of Abaqus, I want to model the behaviour of bolts as beams (wires). Is there any option to modify the workplan? Or shall I have to create wires and then move and rotate them?

I send you in attach the input file that I have develop, but when I run it I have errors (Too many attempts made for this increment) and warnings (Displacement increment for contact is too big.).

Finally I have one more question: how can I program I new finite element?

Thank you very much: Juan José

There is an option in the contact interaction to exclude shell/membrane thickness. Use that if the shell parts are touching.

I'm not sure what your model does though, as you have a flat rigid part in contact with a flat shell which you are pushing together. They'll either fly apart if there is no contact, or the displacements will be zero everywhere.

Also change the setting to small sliding unless you expect large displacements greater than the size of the elements, for example.

Dear Corus,

Thank you very much for your response. I have made a model taking into acount the shell thickness, and it runs well. Thank you.

On the other hand, I want to model a bolt to simulate its behaviour. Would the model run withouth problem if the bolt, that I want to model as a beam, cross the plate?

Thank you very much.

Regards,

Juan José
