Contact Constraint.

I am putting a contact constraint on two hollow cylinders. As soon as I pick the circumference of one cylinder, I cannot pick anything else. I also have the same problem when I pick a circumference on the other cylinder. The little hand changes into a black circle with a white dash. Why is it doing that?

the online doc will explain you why

check this section .../online/CATIAfr_C2/asmugCATIAfrs.htm

or check contact constraints in Assembly design section.

Thanks itsmyjob. I read the whole article, but I am still at a loss to figure out why this particular constraint does not allow me to pick its opposite pair? I have put this constraint many times on other cylinders in my assembly.

Is there a total number of constraints not to be exceeded? or am I missing something?

As soon as I pick the circumference of one cylinder

did you pick the edge? check in the table you will see why

Yes I did pick the edge, it became red dashed, and then it refused to pick anything else. There is no table, because there is no constraint. It does not let me get that far I also tried to constrain the two annular faces, with the other constraint command, but that did not pick either. Is there something wrong with the cylinder part model?

Can you post some image? It will help me to better understand and help you.

Thanks

Ok. I have uploaded a picture. Something else has happened. When I do shift printscreen, the icon for the mouse disappears, so I took a photo of the screen with my camera and uploaded that. That shows how the pick (mouse) becomes a black circle.

you select a circle (edge) then you should (REALLY) look in the online doc to see what is compatible with a circle for contact constraint.

Ok If I understood correctly from that strange image, the problem is that you have to pick face to face (not edge).

If you pick the circle edge, catia will assume the center and will be looking for another center to constraint to.

Try pick from one face to another and then constrain the two centers.

I can make some images to show but it should be easy I believe, please try and let me know.

wrong: after selecting a circle I can not select another circle or a point that could define a center.
