I have a ring that is shrunk onto a shaft of different material.
I want to establish the initial deformation boundary conditions using a geometrical interference fit (0.009”). After the plastic deformation has been established, I want to release the contact elements to examine the resulting permanent deformation.
Once the initial boundary conditions are set, I would like to displace the ring away from the shaft and then release it to see if the original interference fit is maintained.
I establish the initial deformation via contact elements (in loadstep 1) which I then deactivate using the ekill command using a snippet in Workbench. At this point the analysis is behaving as expected the deflection due to the interference fit is divided between the shaft and the ring).
However, when I apply the displacement to the ring in load step 2 (the ekill command was executed in load step 2),and then remove the displacement in load step 3, the original interference of 0.009” is applied to the shaft. How do I deactivate the contact elements from load step 2 and subsequent load steps? I get an error if I don’t issue the eall command after the ekill command.
