Contact gasket surface of Flat Flange Slip On

Hi all,
Hope you have a good day.
I need your advice for this thread. I wonder that which face of a flat flange slip on will be the contact gasket surface? It seems that both sides of flat flange slip on are same.

This is a photo of a specialized flat-face lap joint, not a conventional slip-on flange.
(Yes, it is NOT a typical slip-on joint, but it will serve to illustrate the flat face gasket sealing surface.)

Now, please explain your question, what surface - other that the blue-sprayed surface which touches the gasket - could see system fluid pressure?

In theory it's the entire face of the flange.

Thanks racookpe1978 and LittleInch. My question is simple as below photo:

Face 2 is the surface that touchs to gasket.
So when fitting-up at shop how can I know which surface of flange will touch to gasket ?

The sealing face will be the one with the spiral ridges required to grip the gasket

Thanks . I see that it is same on both faces visually so that's why I post this thread. And I think that both faces are the same.

Then it doesn't matter. Probably they made both sides the same to help people who putt on flanges the wrong way around....

BTW that's a pretty small fillet weld on the outside of the pipe. That won't take a lot of pressure.
