Convert 2005 part to 2004 1

I've been working on a project in Solidworks 2005, but our customer is using 2004. Is it possible to save the files as a 2004 file type? Anyone have any ideas?

Solidworks in not backwords compatible. To be able to save as 2004, you would have to export as a parasolid file, then import the parasolid into 2004. However, you will only have a dumb solid. If you search the forum for backwards compatability you will find many threads on this topic.

The case remains true for Inventor as well so I believe it's not just a SW issue.

Please use the search function using backward as the keyword. This topic comes up at every new release ... and then some.

To answer your question, No. You will have to use a "dumb" parasolid file to go backwards.

Thanks for the replies. I suspected it wasn't backwards compatible, but I wanted to double check.

Do you have 2004 in house? If so you can probably translate to 2004 with parasolids, then use FeatureWorks to convert to parametric and then use the auto relation and autodimensioning tools to finish up.
