I wanted to know how to convert a V4 CATIA model to an iges file. And also how to "read" the IGES file. When I convert the IGES file back to a model file I get a blank screen.
First you must have a license for IGES module. Go to UTILITY>CATIGE>CATIA FILE (select the directory where is your model)>MODEL (select your model)>IGES MEMBER (put a name for your IGES file with the extension igs)>MEMBER FORMAT (select IGES)>VDA-IS OPTION (select what you want)>YES:CONTINUE.
A new window will appear in order to select the options for the IGES file. Select what you need (standards, type of conversion a.s.o.)
Press YES to execute. I noticed (but I'm not very sure) that if you will try to execute something else during this process, your IGS file will have errors.
For IGS file to CATIA model transfer you can use the IGSCAT from UTILITY. The process is similar.
Ok !! what you need to know is that IGS format works only for surfaces and faces etc . not SOLIDS !!! , so make sure you are not trying to convert a solid into IGS format ....
Thanks for your reply I agree with what you have said .
But we have had blank files when trying to transform certain Solid CATIA models .
Good luck at your work !!
Hi ferdo and TORNADO2003fr,
I agree BOTH of what your say!!
To my limited experience, CATIGS "cannot" tranform solid
("exact", but VOLUME. As far as the constituent faces/surfaces/curve are sufficient to "define" a volume (or
in other words, it is well defined to be CLOSE), then a VOLUME will be resulted, from which we can use SOLIDE function to change it into solid. Hope it is right still now. Cheers. Kennis Tang.
