Converting *.asm to *stp as part

Hello.
Is there someone who can help me further regarding this problem.I am actually having some problems as i try to convert the *.asm to *stp as part data.
This is the error stated in the solid edge when i tried to convert them.

"When opening the file there are several bodies. The basic form element for this document is not automatically created.You shall use the basic element of form in the popup menu to create or construct a new basic formelement."

Im sorry if i coudnt find the correct word as above because im currently using solid edge in german language.So maybe there are a few words which not suit the english version.

p/s: i already succeed in converting some of them without any problem.But some of them failed as the error as above occured.

Do some of the parts contain only surfaces?

Ermm im not very sure if some of the parts contain surfaces? How do we recognise that? Sorry if the question looked like a noob question.

i also tried a few ways which were simplified assembly and also copy part..but neither were succeed.

If you open a part you should see the surfaces in the pathfinder.
If you open an assembly you would RMB in the graphics window and 'Show all Surfaces'
You might also need to select parts, RMB and 'Show/Hide Component > Surfaces'.
I can't say for certain if this is the problem but the massage appears to suggest multiple bodies and that some surfaces may not have been joined to make a base feature.
You should still be able to make a step file though, evn from surfaces.
Check that the Save As > Step > Options > Solids and Sheets (Constructions) boxes are checked.

Thanks to you beachcomber.I can solve this problem..Yeah you were right.The problem occured because of the surface.In my case there were a few surfaces which touch with each other.I think it like a collision between surfaces.

As you said about save as Step.Theoretically it can be saved but unfortunately when you want to open it as a part the error occur.
So I have to adjust the dimension like length of my part so the collision can be prevented.For now some of the assembly can be converted.Thanks again Beachcomber. =)

Can I ask why you are saving an assembly as a STEP then re-importing into a part?

Actually we have a Transfersystem model.We are monitoring the Movement of the Transfersystem.For the time being we would like to change the arrangement according to the certain situation.So we have come to a solution it should be better the *.asm construction to be converted into a *.prt.For this reason it is important for us to create a file containing only the outer contours of the *. asm without each item presented.

Or do you have any othe idea in spite of doing this?

There have been other threads about converting assemblies to parts - take a look.

It does not require exporting as a dumb solid and re importing.

It does not always work.

Simplistically, create a new part, insert, part copy and pick your assy. This way will also allow you to update the part version as the assy changes - if it works.
