I have developed a number of applications using the GE-Fanuc series 90-70 PLC's. These have been working well for some time. But a possible client has asked if I can provide one application on the latest series PAC RX7i controller.

Has anybody experience of converting applications to the new range, how easy it is, any pitfalls to be aware of etc.?

Thanks in advance.

It is very easy, if you have all common I/O modules it "should" import needing either no changes or minimal changes.
The main thing is that your variable names do not contain characters deemed 'off limits; by the PAC.

Just make sure that you read the docs that come with the Firmware update files, to see what bugs are still being worked out. This area is the one thing that GE does that is a double edged sword. On the one hand, you know the bugs that were fixed...but, on the other hand, you know what wasn't fixed yet.

Don't you wish that this kind of information would come with everyting you purchased?

Tomatge,
I have just done a migration from 90-30 to RX3I and as dV8r says it is quite easy, THe only pitfall I found was that some of the timers used in the 90-30 are a little different in the RX3i, I had to check them individually. This may not be relivant in your system.
THe other thing is to watch the hardware addressing, I lost a lot of time because I did not go back and check that the addresses of the various modules were the same after as they were before, but that might just be me, of course.
