Coordinate planes partially visible 1

On my office machine the xy,yz and xz coordinate planes are always visible even when they are inside a part. Similarly, points, etc. are visible and selectable. On my laptop, they are hidden when they are inside a part.

How do I make them visible and selectable?

Tools->options->general->display->visualisation tab->uncheck display all elements with Z-buffer depth
