In one of the Process specification document , it has been speficied that for the Presence of h2S , Copper and Copper alloys shall not be used. We can understand that For Amine services we shall not use Cu and Copper alloys. Why Cu and Cu alloys should not be used for H2S service?

H2S is corrosive. If you want an explination on the molecular level of how hydrogen sulfide reacts with copper then a chemist could give you more information on this.

I however have some recommendation for H2S that may help you in materials selection.

Materials that are NOT recommended for H2S:

Bronze & Monel (yes these are copper alloys), Tungsten Carbide, Carbon Steel, Ductile Iron, Cast Iron, Nylon

Recommended Materials:

Aluminum, 304SS-17-4phSS, 316SS, EPDM/EPR, Teflon, Ryton, Carbon, Peek
