Copy and paste a section view that is independent from the original

I have a section that I copy and paste right next to it on the same sheet. Now, in the drawing sheet/view navgator I have a section view (the original) and for some reason a detailed view (the newly pasted copy). Later I want to delete the original and keep the copy, but I can't do this without also deleting the copy because of the parent-child relationship that gets created. Is there a way around this? Why isn't an independent section view created when I paste it? That is what the behavior is like when I copy and paste a base view.

Section views will update associatively with the geometry they are always based upon the view from which the section was struck. That's just the ways that it is and the relationship remains necessary for the life of the drawing. You don't have to display the base view, you can edit the boundary or move it to another sheet so that it can't be seen if you wish.

I don't know of any provision for a dumb section view or even a dumb base view. Mind you you don't have to leave automatic updates of views turned on you can turn it all off and only ever update manually on a selective basis. The system isn't really set up to work that way where the underlying geometry changes greatly from previously because a certain number of model edge curves are likely to appear in any given view meaning that as the model changes they may tend to disappear leaving gaps as compared with the previous display.

Maybe it would be a good enhancement to make truly dissociative views for whatever reason. Frankly I'm not missing it but there may be some use or downstream benefit where a lower level of associativity is desirable.
