I have been in the habit of using ctrl + c to copy and ctrl + v to paste for about 10 years. I recently reinstalled my AutoCAD LT 2002 and now when I press ctrl + c nothing is copied and *cancel* is displayd on the command line.

How can I restore the ctrl + c back to the way it used to work?

Ctrl + c works normally for all my other software.

I don't use LT but check under OPTIONS...User Preferences
look for WINDOWS STANDARD BEHAVIOR and make sure it is checked.

Under the WINDOWS STANDARD BEHAVIOR there are 2 check boxes. I tried all 4 combinations of checks with no change in the ctrl + c.

Control + C in autocad and lt is the
command for cancel and has been for
a long time.
I do not know of a shortcut key for copy
in acad I think that is so as it requires
several answers before it copies.

PICKFIRST has been set to 1 all along. I tried setting to 0 then back to 1 but there was no difference.

I searched the help files and from what I can tell the first advice should work. However the description/instructions given do not match the Tools-->Options -->Windows behavior choices exactly (either WMO or the AutCAD help files).

Further searching has led me to the aclt.pgp and aclt.mnu files which control various shortcut & menu options. Help implies that alternatly loading or unloading these files will change the way the commands & shortcuts work.

To summarize, I am learning a lot about the AutoCAD environment but I still have no solution in spite of the accurate help I have recieved.

This is really a low priority issue for me so I will continue with the status quo but I will monitor this thread for any new developments.

I am now interested in adding macros to the aclt.mnu file but I do not know how I should go about this, any help is appreciated.

According to LT help menu, the procedure is as
follows. Evidently from the Edit Menu, you do have
the options that you requested.

------------------------------------------
To copy objects to the Clipboard

Select the objects you want to copy.
From the Edit menu, choose Copy. You can also press CTRL+C.
Command line COPYCLIP

------------------------------------------------------
When you want to use objects from an AutoCAD LT drawing file in another application, cut or copy these objects to the Clipboard and then paste them from the Clipboard into your file.

Cut Objects
Cutting deletes selected objects from the drawing and stores them on the Clipboard. The objects are now available to be pasted into other Windows documents.

Copy Objects
You can use the Clipboard to copy part or all of a drawing into a document created by another application. The AutoCAD LT objects are copied in vector format, which retains the high resolution in other applications. These objects are stored in WMF (Windows metafile) format in the Clipboard. The information stored in the Clipboard can then be embedded in the other document. Updating the original drawing does not update the copy embedded in the other application.

Paste Objects
Applications use different internal formats to store Clipboard information. When you copy objects to the Clipboard, AutoCAD LT stores information in all available formats. When you paste the Clipboard contents into an AutoCAD LT drawing, AutoCAD LT uses the format that retains the most information. However, you can override this setting and convert pasted information to AutoCAD LT format.

Because it is the easiest format to edit, the AutoCAD LT format is the preferred format for copying objects to and from AutoCAD LT. It retains all relevant object information, including block references and 3D aspects.

The Windows metafile (picture) format contains screen vector information, and files can be scaled and printed without losing resolution. Use this format to paste objects into Windows applications that support WMF files. Metafiles pasted into AutoCAD LT are of higher resolution than bitmapped images (BMP files) but are not as easily manipulated as AutoCAD LT objects.

The color of the object doesn't change when copied to the Clipboard. For example, white objects pasted onto a white background won't be visible. Use the WMFBKGND and WMFFOREGND system variables to control whether the background or foreground is transparent for metafile objects pasted into other applications.

Bitmapped images are raster images consisting of a pattern of pixels and are commonly used by paint applications.

You can insert a linked or embedded object from the Clipboard into an AutoCAD LT drawing with PASTESPEC. If you convert pasted information to AutoCAD LT format, the object is inserted as a block reference. To edit the pasted information, explode the block reference into its component objects. When you convert a Windows metafile stored on the Clipboard to AutoCAD LT format, you may lose some scaling precision. To retain proper scaling, save objects in the original drawing as a block ( WBLOCK), and then insert them into AutoCAD LT using INSERT.

LT is different than full AutoCAD in this respect.

I just noticed that ctrl + s does not do a quick save as it has in the past. I will reinstall the program to see if that helps.

I realize that AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT are different. I had a similar problem some time ago when we purchased AutoCAD 2004. I was unable to CTRL+C as well. I found that I needed to load Express Tools, after that it worked. I don't believe that AutoCAD LT has Express Tools, correct?
