Hello folks:

I have a set of lines and circles I would like to copy from one file to another. I am not able to do it.

I select the lines and circles, then issue the copy command in file A.
I go to file B, issue the paste command.
It pastes unrelated items from another windows program that I selected and issued the copy command to!

What is going on?

Thanks

Yes, I've had copy & paste problems too. Did you try CTRL+c keys or the Copy command within DS. Try CTRL+c. I've had to close DS and re-open to get it to paste the correct stuff. Maybe even restarting the computer.

I just tried copying the way you described:

[ul]
[li]Selected everything I wanted to copy with Ctrl+A[/li]
[li]Used Ctrl+C[/li]
[li]I got an error message in the Command Window down below:[/li]
[li]"Cannot create temp file,
<<error>>"[/li]
[/ul]

Closing the DraftSight and restarting does not seem to help...

I always highlight what I want to copy. Right click and select copy with reference point. Open the .dwg I want to copy to, right click select paste. Scale if needed

What's happening is when you select copy using the copy command on the task bar or ctrl + c DS copies within the program to maintain scale. When you go to file "B" it pastes whatever was left on the clipboard. The right click command copies the highlighted item to the clipboard that's why it will paste. Also why it will need to be scaled if your not 1:1

Emangas, I tried what you suggested. I got the following error at the very end:

: ._MAINSELECT
Specify opposite corner:
:
Specify reference point»
108 found, 108 total
Can't create temp file
«Error»

I wonder what this "Can't create temp file" means...

I was able to delete the dots.

The layer is still there, though.

Ooops!

The last post was meant for a different thread....

I'm having a similar issue coping from Draftsight to Solidworks. I have always highlighted the geometry that I wish copy, right click and select copy with reference point. I then go to the Solidworks part file and paste. It seems as though this no longer works with the latest update of DS. When I select paste nothing happens. I've tried zoom extents to make sure it is not be pasted off screen but still no luck. Please let me know if anyone has found a work around.

Hokioehomer, do you also see in the Command Window the following message?

Can't create temp file
«Error»

There are no error messages. Everything looks normal in Draftsight, it just will not paste into Solidworks. This issue coincided with the last update of DS that was installed last week.

Hello All:

This problem came back. I cannot remember how I resolved it last time. There were no solutions offered here.

Again, using Ctrl+C (or its equivalents using the DraftSight provided icons, right mouse click menu...)I cannot copy an object to the clipboard.

I get the following message:

"can't create temp file".

How do I resolve this?

Thanks,

Al

I solved the problem:

Uninstalled DraftSight completely, then reinstalled.

I can now copy with Ctrl+c and its equivalents....

This problem came back again, and I had to uninstall and install DraftSight four times two days ago. After each install, it would work for a while and then stop copying.

Yesterday when I could no longer copy objects again, I took the error message "Can't create temp file" as a clue, and looked at

C:> Users>"your_user_name">AppData>Local>Temp on my Windows 7 computer.

(I am going from memory and this may not be the exact location).

I found a bunch of folders related to DraftSight. Deleting them solved the problem!

No more lengthy uninstalls and re-installs.

BTW, you need to close DraftSight to be able to delete everything...
