corbel design help

Hi I am currently trying to design a a tower column for my suspension bridge overhanging to a platform, so to support the column I'm thinking of putting it on top of the corbel, but my worry is i might be missing something, or maybe there is a better approach in designing it. (DESIGN CODE : ACI)

Hope someone could enlighten my concern.

A drawing or sketch would help in understanding your problem.
 
Why not place the bridge pier directly below the columns? It's going to need to be one hell of a corbels to deal with suspension bridge tower loads.
 
but would it be possible to place a column on top of a corbel? would there be any restrictions? or would it be more better to design a cantilever deep beam as the base support of the column?
 
You can do what you've proposed do long as the numbers can be made to work. Whether you think of it as a corbel or a deep beam, strut and tie design will be appropriate.

I like to debate structural engineering theory -- a lot. If I challenge you on something, know that I'm doing so because I respect your opinion enough to either change it or adopt it.
 
I think the corbel provisions of ACI fall apart when the corbel extends beyond the supporting member as in your sketch. I would look at strut and tie like KootK suggested. It isn't really a corbel, and not a cantilever beam. Think how it could fail and reinforce it accordingly. Can you just make the supporting pier wider so you don't have that 'double' cantilever?
