Corporate Decay

I was curious if any of you have been with a company that went through a similar decay process. If so, what were the internal indicators? Did the company rebound? If so, how? Also, what did you learn to look for to notice decay early in a company?

I have questions about my current organization regarding this, but I also just have a general interest in the corporate dynamic.

IMHO, this article is not a research paper as it tries to be. Despite some common sense truth in it, this should be more looked into as an oppinion article than a formal research one.
Some clues:
-Despite there are in the end a quite few sources, I would say that 80% of the article is supported by DeLorean's book;
-Sometimes the wording is in a level that I would classify as "coloquial" or "tabloidish";
