Can anyone help me out with this one. I'm trying to maximize and quantify fan power consumption on a cooling tower. How does air flow correlate with Twb, pump power and cooling tower range (tin-tout).

The application is vsd on ct fans.

Can someone please help me. I'm stuck.

You can correlate the performance of your tower against the air flow rate, and then use your fan curve to correlate the air flow against the power.

The first step is to characterise your tower packing. There is a good article on CT performance at

Download the DOS program they reference - yes, it's a pain using DOS programs but I don't know of any better program for free. Get all the input data for the program by monitoring your tower and calculate the KaV/L factor using the program. Then work the other way around with the KaV/L as an input to calculate the performance as you vary the air rate. I recently did a study using this procedure on a tower for a client and the predictions worked out well, but I was trying to predict performance with different wet bulb temps and constant air flow.
