As described; I want to make a comparison with carbon steel in mild, sometimes wet chlorides in the temperature range 32-170°F. I am considering general corrosion and pitting corrosion.

Define "sometimes". Neither one is a good choice for wet cl- exposure, especially if the wet condition allows cl- concentration as it dries.

"You see, wire telegraph is like a very long cat. You pull his tail in New York and his head is meowing in Los Angeles. Do you understand this? Radio operates the same way: You send signals here, they receive them there. The only difference is there is no cat." A. Einstein

Watch out for 410 data. Most of what you find will be for martensitic material, not the ferritic (low carbon).

I'll repeat the comment, if this is casual exposure (like at the beach) it will be an improvement. If there is a chance for the chlorides to dry and concentrate without being washed off then you will just get pitting in place of general rust.

I need to select MOC for condenser tubes in a VOC recovery system. Most of the vapour is organic and inert, but there is some MeCl. I need to avoid the risk of SCC in the 300 steels, but want something more corrosion resistant than carbon steel, which is essentially a disposable material. Any other low-cost suggestions that might be better than CS?

The co$t of duplex is what we want to avoid if possible on this project.

With the strength of duplex you can go really thin, really thin. Look at this a new way.
