Corrosion inhibitor in vertical HC piping?

Hi,

A client suspects issues with injecting corrosion inhibitor in piping systems containing vertical piping.

The injection point itself is located in a horizontal pipe, however the downstream piping contains some vertical sections. Has anyone experienced issues with establishing a protective film in vertical piping? What are compensating measures here (other than perhaps replacing these sections with duplex / stainless piping).

Is this a likely problem?

The concerns are that the corrosion inhibitor is not able to generate a protective film on vertical sections of the pipe; I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this issue, and if so what the compensating measure was.

This could (should) be easily demonstrated in a Lab Environment. Most filming inhibitors are polar (attracted) to the metal surfaces. Solids, turbulence, temerature, flashing of acid gasses and the presence of water are all considerations.
