Corrosion resistance 4140 ammonium nitrate

Hi all,

Can anyone steer me in the direction of where to find corrosion resistance data for 4140 steel against ammonia nitrate attack.

A table, chart or book would be great.

Its ANFO explosive, so its a paste form. AN by weight is around 94% with fuel/oil.

The support steelwork if failing because its not strong enough and someone suggested 4140 for the strength.

Its for an underground vehicle.

According to my Compass corrosion Guide it does not look like a good choice.
At least for straight AN.
How much corrosion protection you will get from the fuel oil is something for you to decide.

Are there any other corrosiontables containing that contain a high strength high corrosion resistance steel for AN?

Typical stainless steels, austenitic and duplex (austenite+ferrite) are resistant to ammonium nitrate. They can be cold rolled (sheet, plate) or cold drawn (bar, wire, tube) to higher strength:

A duplex stainless (even one of the lean duplex alloys) should be fine.
They are high strength (not quite as high as Q&T 4130) but much stronger than other CRAs.
Alloys such as LDX2101 and ATI2102 are a good place to start.
