Over the years I have used many internal cosmetic inspection standards that were written by the company I worked for or an OEM customer. For example GM4348M PAINTED PARTS APPEARANCE REQUIREMENTS. I am need of one again but we don't have one. Instead of writing it myself I would like to find a common one that I can reference. As you know well written ones are very detailed. I have used SPI AQ-103 : COSMETIC SPECIFICATIONS OF INJECTION MOLDED PARTS before for injection molded parts but now I need something for painted parts. Do you have any suggestions?

My standard for cosmetics is likely far, far different than yours. E.g. a cosmetic standard for a painted steel pipe flange is not too strenuous. For a consumer item, it might get into far pickier detail.

I've found quite a few of those through a google search in the past..
Google this "sheet metal inspection criteria".. I get quote a few links to others standards you can just copy..

btrueblood, that is true. Most of the standards all have different levels built in such as class A surface without defects to a noncosmetic surface without inspection. This allows one standard to be used and just chose the right class.
