Cosmetic Thread callout in drawings

I am trying to denote a cosmetic thread I included on a rod I want to thread but there does not seem to be a way to call the thread out in the drawing. SolidWorks says that it is done by going into Insert-Model Items-Cosmetic Thread but there seems to be no cosmetic thread option in model items. Would anyone know where this would be?

I had this exact same problem and I never found a solution for it. The cosmetic thread for external thread is so badly implemented in the software that it's almost a shame.

What version are you on? I'm on 2012 and did the following without a problem:
[ul]Create a rod
'Insert annotations->cosmetic thread', define threads.
Save part
Create drawing from part
Ensure that 'Import Annotations' is selected under Options in the View Palette
Drag View onto sheet.[/ul]

The thread callout propagated automagically.

You are right Jeff most often it works automatically but if it doesn't work there doesn't seem to be a way of getting the callout back.

I am using 2012... Yeah something similar to a hole callout but just to denote the thread type and length on a rod... I have had a couple instances where it would not call it out by simply right clicking the cosmetic thread and selecting insert callout. This usually happened with uncommon sized rods, more so with shorter than 1/4" rods and sizes that are used for hole sizes. I did find the easiest thing to do was just make a note with a leader to the threads with the type and size on it... just tedious I guess you can say

I ended up writing the threads manually in the dimension box because I didn't want to spend anymore time on this issue.

If I remember right the problems was related to the type of thread, If I use ANSI it doesn't show but with ISO if would work or something like that. I don't have much time right now to investigate any further.

Works fine for me if I remove your views and re-insert.

I'm running SW12-SP4. I have no idea if that was a bug which has been fixed.

If you right-clcik on the dotted line in the side view, do you have a Insert Callout option?

When I open the drawing, the right-click Insert Callout option is not available.
If I then open the part model, enter Edit Feature mode for the cosmetic thread and then select the green check mark without changing a thing, the callout option becomes available in the drawing.

... so I'm guessing it was a bug which has been fixed between 'SW0-SP5 & SW12-SP4

I don't have the Insert Callout option you're describing so I won't be surprised that it was a bug that's been corrected.

I had a similar issue before, using custom cosmetic threads. I found that when I right clicked on the thread the "insert callout" would not show unless the type of thread was manually typed in as an annotation when creating the cosmetic thread. Not sure if this helps, but may add some insight for later.
