Covered conductor manufacturers

Hi, I'm looking for some manufacturers of aerial covered conductors. I'm designing a 69kV line in a narrow ROW with close proximity to trees. I want the added protection of a covered conductor to mitigate risks of flashover. I have heard that there are various places in the world that commonly use this type of unshielded aerial insulated conductors (ie: Scandinavia, Australia, etc.) Preferably the conductor would have some sort of steel or composite core for improved sag characteristics.

Could anyone give me some manufacterer names, contact info or websites for such products? I've run dry with my google searches and I'm at a loss.

As I understand the Canadian Electrical code, covered conductors are to be treated as bare conductors for the sake of clearances. If the insulation does not meet the voltage class, the conductor may be considered as a covered conductor and treated as a bare conductor. Covered conductors can not be depended upon to provide flashover mitigation. The clearances must be the same as for bare conductors.

Right, and that's why he have elected NOT to go with a spacer cable system (ie: Hendrix) as these structures would violate bare conductor clearance requirements.
The idea is to design a "bare conductor line" strung with covered conductor in areas of increased tree growth. This line is going through a national park and minimal tree clearing will be allowed. It will be designed to meet all CSA clearances but the covered conductor will provide a mitigation from contact with trees.

Again any manufacturer names would be much appreciated!

The highest voltage rating I have seen is 46 kV.

Looking at Mudcat's links, It may be productive to give Hendrix a call. The key word seems to be "Tree wire".

Tree wire is similar to spacer cable but is not designed to be installed with the spacers.

I checked the links that Mudcat provided too. I didn't find anything above 15kV from southwire and I don't believe Hendrix cable will work for my application. We have been coordinating with them extensively on this project and have obtained lots data on their products. Their cables are supported at 10ft intervals by cable spacers so I don't know that it could handle full span tensions. The datasheets I have from them do not list any rated UTS for their cables.

If you are spacing and insulating for bare conductor at 69 kV, you've got the voltage rating you need. The covering does not determine the voltage rating. But will covered wire normally used at lower voltages reduce contact flashovers much at 69 kV?

You state you are designing to CSA clearances but are concerned but are concerned with tree contact. Wouldn't such a contact violate CSA clearance? I'm pretty sure it would violate NESC.
