If I have existing part drawing (not belongs to company A), and I have to make some modification. For example: adding one hole and remove/reduce the thickness.
How or what is the best way to show this modification needed in my drawing?

Do I need to show all the detail or just show what need to be modified (with overall dimension and important dimension, etc)?

My thought is don't need to show detail dimension (same as original print) because this is not related to fabrication of this part but to modify the part.
and will provide the dimension as "(xxxx)"--> the dimension as for reference.
and the dimension that need to modify will not be bracketed.

Any comments? Any standard way?

Actually the part and the print is not from our company.
1. I want to make some modification of the part.
2. I am not creating this part OR I am not asking to fabricate/machine this part.
Just wondering is there a "standard".

I would make a new drawing showing "make from" the original part and adding only the dimensions necessary to perform the modification.

Well, ASME Y14.24 has an entire section on modifying drawings.

I believe you may want an altered item drawing but you'd probably want to look in detail to be sure.

Posting guidelines faq731-376 (probably not aimed specifically at you)

I'm with Kenat. The kind of drawing your looking for is called an Altered Item Drawing with a prominent note saying "MAKE FROM PART NO. XXXXX."

My previous company had a lot of confusion over this type of situation "make from". especially if the work was done in house. Engineering practice was to call out the base part and modification on one drawing. Drove purchasing and inventory nuts because they could never tell if the parts in inventory had been modified or not. The preferredpractice was to create a drawing/part number for the purchased part and then create a drawing/part number for the modified part.
