Is there a way to create a x, y, z table (similar to the x, y hole chart on a flat plate)and also have a balloon or some kind of callout identifying the points? We design weld jigs for automotive parts and the jigs must be verified for accuracy using xyz coordinates. Currently we use catia and create points on the parts then pick the points and create a xyz chart. We are running sw 2011 and have 2012 but not yet installed. This is a huge hurdle to get over in order to make the jump to using sw exclusivley vs. catia.

huntwe,

You may be able to do so using a 3dSketch and driving the points that way. With a 3d sketch you can dimension the points to the Default planes but importing from catia you woould need to first create the points on the imported points from Catia then remove the coincident constraints and create your dimensions. Ideally you should be able to create or have a macro created that would do this for you automatically. You can contact your VAR and maybe they could help you with this because Dassault Systemes owns both Catia and SolidWorks. I'm sure one of the fine users at this sight would be able to help you out with some sample macros because VARs usually charge customers for helping out with macros.

2D Sketches have an auto dimension option but I believe this is not available in 3dSketches unless they added that to 2012 but that doesn't seem too likely.
Good Luck in your quest.
