creating a hole on a mesh

I have a model that only has mesh (no geometry). I want to create a hole in one of the panels. my first approach was deleting some elements and to approximate it for a hole but I am sure there's a more accurate way of doing it. My second approach was to create a surface on the mesh, draw a circle on that surface and then extrude that circle to create a hole but I am not sure how to go about extruding the circle. also, when i created a circle, i couldn't see the curve being displayed (the message box would say curve created, however, i couldnt see it).

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am new to modeling but trying to learn and use my resources

consider posting in the FE foruum, but don't double post (RF this one yourself, and explain "redundant thread").

it's hard to modify a model without the unlying geometry ...
1) consider deleteing elements and nudging nodes ... a lot of work but ...
2) consider making a geometry model ... points on nodes, join them as little surfaces, then cut in the hole. do this only for the piece being affected, and splice into the full model.
3) do nothing ... use a Kt factor (3) to account for the hole, using the gross area stresses from your model. if you're trying to make a fastener connection, consider RBEing to a set of nodes ?

Sounds like you probably received the mesh from a designer.
If it is internal, the easiest solution is to tell the designer you want to look at placing a hole in the location you are interested in. The designer can do that much easier then you "mucking" with the mesh. The designer "should" know if the location you are interested in is a "stay-out" zone, or if a better location is available.

"extrude" a curve is hidden under the "mesh" menu ... ??

i think it'll take a lot of "finger work" to get the hole bore to mesh with the parent flange.

tet mesh ?

fastener hole or lightening hole ?

it may well be easier to go back to the people who made the model and see if
1) they'll cut the hole in for you, or
2) they'll give you the geometry underlying the model (which maybe a CATIA model)

it might be easier to model and mesh a larger chunk of flange, maybe something that aligns with the mesh and "cut and paste".
