Creating field output by operating on frames

Hi All,

I think the 'Creating field output by operating on frames' option in Abaqus, especially the 'maximum values over specified frames', might be useful for me. However, I am not sure if i do understand this function correctly.

As I interpret it from the manual, it gives me the highest value of certain output variables for each integration point within all selected steps. This then would mean that I get a contour plot with the maximum values for each integration point during one of the selected steps, regardless if that highest value occured in the first, second, third or any other frame. The eventual contour plot may then contain a certain value in integration point X derived from frame 2 and another value in integration point Y derived from frame 7.

If I then report field output via Report-->Field Output for the newly formed 'Session Step', I obtain a list with the highest value for each integration point somewhere within the selected steps.

Is there someone who could confirm if i understand this option correctly?

Thanks in advance!

Yes, you are correct.
With this tool you can see the max (or min, or sum) of all locations across all selected frames, but you loose the information about the time/frame when it appeared.

But if you see a location with high values and you want to investigate how this location behaves through history, then you can focus on that in an animation (hide other regions) or create a xy-plots of those nodes or points.

Thanks alot for your quick response!

I think, however, that the information about the time/frame where the maximum value appeared is not lost, since automatically the variable 'outputVariable_Index' is created, which gives you the frame for each integration point where the highest value happened.
