Creating Sets of elements in Abaqus for Catia

Hi,
I'm modelling a marine structure in Catia. First GSD and then using AFC - Advanced Meshing afterwards to mesh the structure.
One issue I'm having is that I would like to Group elements and then apply material properties and thicknesses to these groups.
Is this possible or is it only possible to apply properties and thicknesses on each mesh?

Just as I would do in Abaqus if you have a orphan mesh.
- create set
- choose elements
- choose the set in the section assignment

I want to do this because I think it is easier to control the mesh this way and apply the material properties and thicknesses afterwards.
