Creating Sets?

I am having some problems with assigning initial conditions to particular sets in my model. I have two parts in the model, one was a 'mesh-part' created from the original part, so they are both essentially the same part, I think..?

What I need to know is, what is the difference in creating sets in the 'Assembly' and creating them within the actual part?

I have sets created and assigned in the 'assembly' but it doesnt seem to recognise them when I sumbit the job...

There's no difference really, it just affects how you reference the node sets later on.

If you define node sets in the *PART, then you do the following;

*PART, name=PART1
..
..
*nset, nset=nodeset1
1,2,3,4....
..
*END PART
..

So if I then need to assign a boundary condition, either in the step or as model data, then I refer to the nset as;

*BOUNDARY
PART1.nodeset1,1,1

Okay, now if I define the same nodeset in the assembly, it's a bit different, but the same rules apply.

*assembly, name=assy1
..
*instance, name=part1, part=part1
..
*end instance
..
*nset, nset=nodeset1, instance=part1
1,2,3,4...
..
*end assembly

Now there is an assembly level node set called nodeset1. To refer to this, I then do;

*BOUNDARY
nodeset1,1,1

Check the keyword manual for *NSET aswell.

Personal preference for me is to define the nsets at part level.
