I am currently developing a test circuit to output a lightning current wave with a peak of 10kA. My problem is that in order to get the required characteristics of the wave ie. rise and fall times, I need a 0.3ohm resistor. I am not sure what type of material to use that would sustain a peak of 10kA for approxiamately 30microseconds. I was considering water...any suggestions.

You might try getting in touch with the folks at HV Technologies ( )

I once attended a high voltage testing techniques seminar sponsored by them, and a number of them seemed pretty well plugged in (no pun intended) to the suppliers for equipment like that.

It is only 300 J/pulse. I think you could make the R
from a a lenght of iron band. I would fold it in a
VVVVVVV shape and if the frequency is high enough
perhaps immerse it in water.
