Hai, burnt2x

My name is J.Karthik working in Switchgear industry in UAE.

I have some clarifications on choosing the reactor sizing. Please find the attached SLD.

Attached SLD is for 11kV Capacitor Bank metal enclosed outdoor panel. How come for 1MVAr size chosen is 120microH?

Let me have clarification for the above and why Air core Inrush current limiting reactor is chosen?

What are types of reactor? How it is classified?

Regards,
J.Karthik

Because I am unsure of the frequency, I can not comment on the reactor size, or inrush limiting factor. Air core reactors are generally cheaper, and not as heavy as iron core.

Hi J.Karthik,
Below is a cap-bank for a recent project. Each stage is rated 2100kVAR at 6.6kV, and supplied with a 75uH reactor. The reactor size was selected to limit the inrush current to the caps, and to prevent resonance with the balance of plant.

As cranky108 mentioned above, air-core reactors are generally lighter and less expensive than iron-core units.

A reactor in this class can be defined with the following units;
- inductance
- voltage & frequency
- Ampacity
- BIL
- insulation class
- temperature rise

It could be a typo error.

Power the power reactors, you should see what is the MVAR rating required? Then work out the value of inductance based on the voltage. It is simple.
