I was wanting to see if anyone could enlighten me on what the command "Custom Background" does and what module you need to be in for the icon to become active. It is currently hidden in NX9.0.3.4, and I have opened realized shape, and the different imaging software but the icon still does not become active.

Any help would be great

I have no idea whatsoever.

Oh man that is not good when John does not know what it is or how to turn it on. John, I have at the site level turned off the ability to change back to the NX7.5 interface and locked that option out. Do you think that it could be something to do with that feature and since it is locked out, that this custom background feature is not an active option? Just pulling strings here.

I did a bit of research (limited though it was since I'm currently sitting at my laptop in a hotel in Baltimore) and this 'function' first appears in NX 6.0, but even then is was hidden. From what I've uncovered, it appears to be an item on the list of 'Backgrounds' that can be applied when in the True Shading mode, however in all the version that I've tested, NX 6.0 thru NX 11.0, out-of-the-box this item is hidden, and when not hidden, it's inactive. I'll try talking to someone in the rendering group and if I learn anything, I'll pass it along. That being said, why the interest in this item in the first place? You seem to imply that you had this working once, eh?

Looks like Custom background is used to change background color in True shading editor [similar to Preference -background]

Can you check True shading editor - Background. There are options like Custom plain/Custom Graduated.

Yes, I had an exchange earlier tonight with the person responsible for the NX rendering functions and she explained that this item is not really an icon, at least not in the sense that you can select it to cause something to happen. Rather it's used as a sort of 'placeholder' to indicate that one of the 'Custom' background options was selected in the True Shading Edit dialog.

John,

The interest on this was based on one of our internal User Group members has a topic to discuss the disabling of commands from a corporate level and this was one of the commands listed. In prep for the upcoming meeting, I was just trying to get a better understanding of what this command was and why it was not able to be activated, which you guys have answered.

Thanks for the help.

Kevin

It's not that mysterious,
enter the true shading mode , select the true shading editor, Background - Background type, Image Background , Background Image : Custom Image, select some image.
Then the option in the Background dropdown will be "Custom Background".

Regards,
Tomas

Yes, but it's still inactive as it's acting a sort of 'indicator' that you're now using one of several possible 'custom' schemes.
