I have a custom flange calculation I would like to run. It is a low pressure flange joint with an elastomeric gasket, and the gasket covers the entire face of the flange joint. The gasket extends outside the bolt circle to the edge of the flanges. Additionally, the joint is such that the flange contact area is essentially a ring on the outside of an open area - essentially two small ~5 inch pressure vessel halves joined together with flanged ring connection.
Does anyone know if there is a section that covers this within ASME VIII? The header on Appendix Y appears to exclude this. Appendix Y states: "FLAT FACE FLANGES WITH METAL-TO-METAL
CONTACT OUTSIDE THE BOLT CIRCLE".
