For some reason after renaming drawings, one of custom properties (Description) disappears from the list, I get empty field.
Any Idea why?

Thank you,

Boris.

I have the same problem, for some reason on random occasions during editing a part the Description field just goes blank. (SW2013) What's up with that?

I can tell you in my case there is no link. It is pure manual text. And the DESCRIPTION field is the only one this happens in. Freaky. Could there be some confusion between a Windows file property and the SW file property?

The Description field in our drawing title block is directly linked to the Description property of the part.

Then the link is getting broken for the property value.
Rename files using SolidWorks Explorer.

You can dbl-click the text, then re-link it using the link button at the left...above font data.

ctopher - Thank you, but that's not the problem we have. Its not that the description text just disappears from the drawing but is still in the part property. In the part, the text in the Description property field just disappears seemingly for no reason. Sometimes I have seen it happen when manipulating configurations.

I was having the same problem until I installed this Hotfix for SP4 - which can be found in this Solution ID at the SW knowledge base S-070177.

Thanks! If and when my employer might see fit to resume maintenance payments I might get access. Until then? I'll move on...

Maybe I am wrong, but I thought the Knowledge base was open to anyone on or off subs... also if you are not aware SW has changed their subscription policy at the beginning of this year Check out this thread559-392307 or if you have a few days check out the one on the SW forum site. I know that you can access without Subs.

Hope that helps,

You must be on subscription to access the knowledge base. See attached.

Thank you, everyone.
Installed SP5, it fixed the problem.

BorisJacob, What version of SW are you running?

Well mine was fixed for a while after going to SP5, but I renamed a bunch of files today while I was in SW and the assemblies were open. All the file description were reset. This is a PITA and I don't think its entirely fixed. Maybe SP5 reset the issue to reoccur at a later date... I lost over 50 file descriptions and I don't have any history of what they were.
