Custom verendeel (sp?) truss

Hi,

I'd like a source that can give me pricing for a series of custom verendeel trusses. The trusses have flat bottom profiles, but the top profile is undulating from one vertical member to another, simulating a curve. Any info would be appreciated

dear John,

You need to get the vierendeel designed first. There may be manufacturers who can do the design for you too but you will need to give them the loadings, spans, deflection limits etc. Also why do you want to use vierendeels? Can you not accept diagonal bracing inbetween the bottom and top chord?

It's Vierendeel up here... but we imported the name...

I'm not sure what you mean by pricing. Is this a 'budget' price to include in the cost of the project? or the fees for engineering the trusses.

If they have been engineered, even a prelim design, then you can likely fax a sketch to a local fabricator to give you a budget price for the supply and installation. To get a 'more better' estimate, a little time spent in designing a typical moment connection for welding and fitting of stiffeners. This is labour intensive and pricey. Also, you might want to take a look at the connection at the 'heel' of the truss and use a vertical member to reduce some of the forces; you can develop fairly high loads at the junction of the top and bottom chords.

Also pricier if there are several different, but similar trusses. Although it may be possible to 'lump' the design into a few types... fabrication is on a one-to-one basis.

Something similar for engineering fees...
