Cutting conditions for 1/4" hot rolled steel on Amada PulsarA4-NT 2415

Hi

I am the programmer and operator of an Amada PulsarA4-NT 2415 for a small architectural metals firm. I have received very little formal training, so my knowledge of laser fundamentals and grasp of conditions creation is limited to what I've picked up from a few short training sessions and my experience running the machine for a year. Information on laser cutting in general, let alone my specific machine, seems to be difficult to find (everything on google is sales information it seems), so I am hoping that I will be able to find some valuable info here on eng-tips.

The main issue that I am struggling with at the moment is refining my cutting conditions for 1/4" hot rolled steel to eliminate a couple of issues. Most importantly, I am getting a lot of molten splash during my pierce, and the pierce holes blow out to approx. 1/8-3/16". I am also having an issue with pitted corners, as well as spurs where the lead-in line meets the rest of the cut. I've attached some pictures as an example of the latest piece that I cut.

I have also attached pictures of my current cutting conditions. They are a bit of a mess from previous users, but the set of conditions I am currently working off of is row 4. The rest give me a worse cut. I've been trying to tinker with the pierce as well as fine data to eliminate these issues, to little avail. Any recommendations for adjustments would be much appreciated.

im not familiar with your laser but if you reduce your gas pressure on the pierce and increase the pierce time it should improve and for what you call spurs if you include a slight overburn to your program that should clear up
 
Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, reducing the gas pressure and increasing pierce time is only giving me more molten material. Also, I understand what you mean by overburn, but don't see an option for that in my programming software (Striker) or a variable for that within the laser itself.
 
However I did manage to address the gouged corners by programming in corner loops.
 
Its been awhile since i ran a 2415 but we used the 5.5 lens with a 2mm nozzle.your other settings look pretty good i would change your angel on the edge data to 90 degree. Do you have the factory settings book?
