Hi everyone,

I am trying to analyze the behavior of composite steel-concrete joint subjected to cyclic loading.
This error occurred and aborted the analysis:

The ratio of deformation speed to wave speed exceeds 1.000 in at least one element. This usually indicates an error with the model definition. Additional diagnostic information may be found in the message file.

The deformation of finite elements representing concrete part is huge and unreal. I defined concrete material using Concrete Damaged Plasticity.

Do you have any tips how to solve this problem and run the analysis successfully? Should I use smaller finite elements or use different values of tension and concrete recovery from those proposed in Abaqus manuals (0 and 1). I am concerned because the same model subjected to static loading ran successfully...

Thanks in advance.

Is that Explicit step ? Check all your units (both loads and material properties) for consistency. Also check amplitude definitione. Remember that it's multiplied by defined load.

Yes. It is Explicit step. I checked material properties units and realized that the certain number should be multiplied by 10^-9 instead of 10^-6. But when 10^-9 is entered, the analysis run very slow. Is there any proper way to accelerate the analysis (mass scaling?), but get accurate results?

In Explicit element size plays very important role. Single element with low stable time increment may slow down the analysis several times. Another important favtor is the step time used. Often dynamic events are artificially sped up in Explicit to lower the step time. For example of your process lasts for a second then you can scale it down to half a second and still obtain valuable results. But remember that at some point inertia will stary playing important role.

Of course mass scaling is an option too.

And make sure that you use as many processors as you can (parallel processing).

Hi ,
I have been trying to link visual studio 2015 with ABAQUS 2018.
I have installed ABAQUS 2018, Visual Studio 2015 and parallel studio 2016.
I have tried linking the Visual studio 2015 with ABAQUS by the following method:

1. Creating two new path in environment variables in control panel.
path A to locate ifort.exe file and B to locate ifortvars.bat file.

A.) C:\Program Files (x86)\IntelSWTools\compilers_and_libraries_2016.1.146\windows\bin\intel64

B.) C:\Program Files (x86)\IntelSWTools\compilers_and_libraries_2016.1.146\windows\bin

Then i changed the abq2018 command file in C:\SIMULIA\Commands
and edit it to add the command :
@call ifortvars.bat intel64 vs2015

It still is giving me the error that "VISUAL STUDIO 2015 is not installed in this system"
I checked and the visual studio is installed and it works.
Why am i getting the same error?!
