We had numerous damages occur to the tubes in the tube bundle assembly in a new heat exchanger fabricated at our suppliers shop during assembly of the shell miters. The supplier told us that he will replace the damaged tubes based on a visual inspection and reuse the acceptable tubes that can be salvaged. Is there any inspection method/criteria that is required by Code that the supplier should follow to ensure that the tubes are good for reuse?

qualitypro, I am not aware of any particular requirements, this would more likely be a matter of agreement among the parties. As well, the method of inspection may depend on the nature of the damage.

Regards,

Mike

The problem with sloppy work is that the supply FAR EXCEEDS the demand

I would recommend a review of ASME SA 1016 General Requirements for Ferritic Alloy Steel, Austenitic Alloy Steel, and Stainless Steel Tubes material specification.
