The Starter has this nonsensical schematic showing two different wire schemes at N2 and N1.

Then the manual on the DF website shows this:

Which doesn't make much sense to me.
The unit did apparently come with a red jumper between N1 and N2.
Nothing tried seemed to work.

Does anyone KNOW how to hook this thing up?
The control voltage in our case is 120V L1,N

If you have 2 wire control, ie a single maintained contact for on-off, then you jump N1 and N2, then apply your 120v to both at the same time. If you have 3 wire control, ie separate Start and Stop momentary buttons, then the NC Stop goes to N2 and the NO Start goes to N1 (from your 120V).

By the way, you must have a jumper or thermistor between 5&6, or if you have an external OL relay, wire the OL contact there.

Is that what the problem was?

By the way, been there, done that, which is why I knew…

That's what I needed, someone who's been in that documentational quagmire.

This is on a rail-car down in San Luey. The guy working on it only gets down every week or two. Last weekend he/we were baffled to the point that he could never get it running at all and couldn't run the refrigeration A/C compressor because of it.

He'll head down again and I'll definitely let you know.
