Can anyone tell me if this is possible.

In an assembly, I want to have all the datum planes that are created in the assembly to be on a separate layer to the component datum planes. It may be something to do with using rules, but I don't know how to do this properly.

Thanks in advance.

Hello,

In your config.pro what have you got under def_layer?

for layer_datum we have layer_datum Datums

Our assembly datums are automatically on a different layer to every component.

To do it manually, you will need to define a new layer, add all the datums to this layer, and remove them from the layers they currently reside on.

How do you get your assembly datums ona different layer to every component?

Hello,

Can you describe what your Layer tree looks like?

Also, if you select Show on the Layer Window what is ticked/checked?

I have some standard layer as follows:

axes
cosmetic
planes
points
csys
crvs

I also have some other layers that I have added:

default_asm_planes
asm_planes

I have the front, side & top datums on the default_asm_planes and I wish to have any other datums that I create in the asssembly to be automatically placed in on the asm_planes layer. It looks like everything is checked in the show menu.

Thanks

Jeff

Hello,

I think I may have solved this, but I'm not certain, have a go at this.

In your assembly create a layer called asm_planes.

In the Layer window, select Layer --> Default Layers, a table Editor will appear, change or add LAYER_DATUM_PLANE in the left hand column, and in the right hand column add ASM_PLANES.

Any planes now created will appear on this ASM_PLANES layer. (I hope).

Does this work correctly?

This will only apply to models in the current session.

Let me know how you get on.

I don't really understand what you mean.

In the layer window, I cannot find 'default layers' and hence no table editor. By the way I'm using Wildfire.
